About OUR STUDIO
Nothing captures Light in all its moods better than glass. Transparent, polished, gleaming, and incandescent, these crystal pieces, exquisitely carved by the renowned designer-artisans of Amri Studio, bring the exquisite and luminous into your world.
Three generations of women created Amri Studio. Founder Christina Amri grew up with her talented artist mother, Marfa Zlotnikov, who had escaped from WWII war-torn Europe and who brought her visual style and Russian-Scandinavian artist’s eye to America. Drawing, painting, upholstering, sewing, speaking 6 languages, and working to create a new home, Marfa brought art and a sensitivity to the beauty of fine materials into her family’s daily language.
Christina went on to train in Europe at age 19 in a 4th generation glass studio in Paris restoring the famed stained glass of Chartres Cathedral. Deeply struck by the devotional nature of centuries of timeless art and architecture there, and the breathtaking beams of colored light cascading from the ancient stained glass, she went on to devote herself to a lifetime of designing and mastery in glass and light. Along with the talented designer Kiran Jot Kaur, her oldest daughter, and her team of talented designers and artisans, her engineer and wood craftsmen, she has been creating remarkable works in her dazzling glass art medium for some forty years.
Christina’s award-winning work can be seen installed in large world-class architectural surrounds for institutional clients nationwide. Absorbed in capturing light, detail, and beauty in her art form, she now brings you these remarkable jewel-like pieces. Amri Studio is proud to offer you small, luxe works of art: The Gemstone Collection.
Especially known for her fascination with Nature, such as flights of bird’s wings, and exquisite leaves, she adds poetry and quotations in both the delicate, or, bold, art of the Letterform. Antique engravings with their tick-marks, latitude numbers or architectural or other geometric elements, have found their way into her works.
All these are bas-relief or dimensionally V-carved by hand with astounding precision and sculptural sensitivity. Reminiscent of Lalique’s cast-glass sculptures, and Tiffany’s or LaFarge’s love of composition and the challenge of such a demanding translucent medium, all her pieces respond to light, coming alive in an almost holographic way. When an Amri piece is mounted in an architectural setting or displayed on a desk or console, the environment becomes welcoming, evocative, lucent, and, as one client stated,
“…like the marriage of a diamond in a beautiful bezel.”
Each piece yearns to honor something remarkable and, even-- magical.
A special personal and signed note from Christina, a Provenance, and Artist’s Description will accompany each unique piece.
